Last week we decided to potty train Logan with the three day method that Jill Gibb used on Camdon. It's basically three days at home one on one with the trainee. You put them in underwear after "throwing away" all of the diapers. Then you go and give them TONS to drink. Juice, pop, chocolate milk, whatever the kid will drink. When they start to have an accident you scoop em up and RUN to the bathroom and have them finish on the toilet. You make a huge deal about them going to the bathroom on the toilet. I jumped up and down, we shouted woohoo! and he got treats. Then you remind them to tell Mamma when you need to go to the bathroom. The idea behind this method is to teach the child to recognize the feeling of having to go to the bathroom and to go to the bathroom on their own. After several accidents he finally got it. It was about time because I thought I was going to die! On day two he understood the concept he started to get defiant and hold his pee. He refused to go to the bathroom, so I called in reinforcements. Camdon came over to show Logan how to pee on the toilet. After Camdon went Logan wanted to go right away and Camdon gave him treats. It was all downhill from there..or was it? The boy hadn't pooped yet and it was long overdue. At dinnertime ( the most stressful time of day mind you) he pooped while I wasn't paying attention. It was everywhere on the carpet, the hardwood floor, the toys. When he got to the bathroom and saw what was in his underwear he tried to kick them off. Not only was it everywhere in the living room, it was all over the walls in the bathroom, the rug and cabinets. Baby Morgan was screaming, he was freaking out and I was about to cry (actually, I think I was crying at this point). After we conquered the mess it got easier. We're still reminding him ALL the time to go to the bathroom but I think the Thomas the Train underwear are here to stay!
PS--The little splint on his elbow is from his arm being tugged on. On day one of potty training he went outside for a second to say hi to Dad. As we tried to go inside he kept going outside and his elbow got dislocated. It sounds bad, but apparently it's pretty common! Not only did we potty train this week, but we made our first visit to the ER with our little guy!!
And she just makes me smile :)
